At Battle @ Bachelor, winners both old and new
Scott Withers reclaimed his title as MPO champion for his 8th title at the Battle @ Bachelor, the 10th year of the tournament, on Aug. 1-2. 13-year-old Fenton Flanagan of Bend and 14-year-old Crosby Jordan of Sisters, each playing their first tournament in the MPO division, tied for third and fifth, respectively — impressive feats from two of Central Oregon’s most promising young players.
In MP40, Eric Henderson surged to tie Shea Babich, then won the first playoff hole for his first B-Tier win since joining the MP40 division this year.
In MA1, Silas Lunetta of Bend shredded with a 2-down, 989-rated second round to win his first tournament ever. Louis Vopata of Bend carded two under-par rounds to win MA2 by 10 strokes.
Two players from Grants Pass won their divisions: Chad Brooks in MP50 and James Palmdale Hance in MA40.
Allen Heinly (MA50), Paul Coulam (MA55), Darin Durham (MA60) and Dave Palmer (MA65) notched wins.
B@B used an extended version of the newly redesigned Black Diamond course at Mt. Bachelor, which now finishes atop Maiden’s Bluff, a steep cross-country ski and mountain bike trail.
Most importantly, there was no lightning this year! Last year’s wild thunderstorm caused a four-hour delay on Sunday — but this year the weather was only slightly windy.
